Age of Empires is a popular Real-Time Strategy game series that has transformed the genre since the late 1990s. Age of Empires IV, the latest edition in the series, will be available for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC users via the Windows 10 Microsoft Store and Steam. The Age of Empires 4 stress test is coming this weekend, and it’ll be your best chance to play the game for free before its official release. The technical stress test will begin from Friday, September 17th at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT until Monday, September 20th at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT.
How to join the Age of Empires IV stress test?
The creators at World’s Edge have revealed all of the specifics for the next stress test on the Age of Empires 4 official website, including when you can play. You can sign up for Age of Empires’ stress test in one of two ways:
- First, using the Xbox Insider Hub app on PC, which is available even if you aren’t an Insider. To do so, download the app, sign in to your Microsoft account, and then go to the Age of Empires IV “Preview” tab to download the stress test.
- The second way is through the Age of Empires IV Steam website, which has a panel for joining the Age of Empires IV stress test and a button to request access to the test.

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system.
- OS: Windows 10 – 64 bit
- Processor: Intel Core i5-6300U or AMD Ryzen 5 2400G

The Abbasid Dynasty, Chinese, English, and Holy Roman Empire civilizations will be available to players during the test. The test’s content will be centered on multiplayer, but you’ll also be able to play through the tutorial mission or compete against the AI in custom lobby matches if you want to get some practice in first.
The Age of Empires series is well-known for developing some of the best RTS games. With the fourth mainline game on the horizon, only time will tell if Age of Empires IV can continue the series’ legacy.
