Bangkok Airways suffers data breach

Bangkok Airways has apologized for a data breach that compromised its customers’ passport details and other personal information. An unauthorized and illegitimate access to its information system was found by the airlines on August 23.

 

The airline said,

 

An initial investigation of the incident appeared to confirm that some of the personal data may have been accessed which are, passenger name, family name, nationality, gender, phone number, email, address, contact information, passport information, historical travel information, partial credit card information, and special meal information.

 

Bangkok Airways Data Breach:

The company hasn’t said how many customers were affected by the breach or when the data was collected. However, they claimed that names, nationalities, genders, phone numbers, emails, addresses, contact information, passport information, previous travel information, partial credit card information, and special meal information for airline passengers had been obtained after an investigation. The organization is still investigating the matter and working to enhance its IT infrastructure as it finds possible victims.

 

The hackers were unable to compromise Bangkok Airways’ operational or aeronautical security systems, and they have reported the incident to the Royal Thai Police. As a precaution, the airline advises all travelers to contact their bank or credit card provider and follow their recommendations, including changing any stolen passwords as soon as possible. In addition, the company advises travelers to be careful of any unusual or unwanted calls or emails, as the attacker may pose as Bangkok Airways and attempt phishing assaults.

 

Customers are urged to notify the police or pursue legal action if they receive messages claiming to be from Bangkok Airways and requesting credit card information or other personal information. The announcement coincided with a warning from the LockBit ransomware gang announcing plans to release 103 GB of compressed files taken from Bangkok Airways on August 30.
