Clubhouse Data Leak

Following in the footsteps of Facebook and LinkedIn, Clubhouse has experienced a major online data breach exposing the personal information of over 1.3 million people. According to Cyber News, an SQL database containing the personal information of 1.3 million Clubhouse users was leaked online.

Names of social media profiles, user IDs, photo URLs, Twitter handles, number of followers, account creation date, invited by user profile name, and other details were among the information leaked. The leaked data does not contain confidential information such as credit card numbers or legal documents, according to the report.

Cybercriminals may use the information to target users who have been impacted by phishing or other forms of social engineering. They can even brute-force passwords for Clubhouse accounts, according to the report.

“Particularly determined attackers can combine information found in the leaked SQL database with other data breaches in order to create detailed profiles of their potential victims. With such information in hand, they can stage much more convincing phishing and social engineering attacks or even commit identity theft against the people whose information has been exposed on the hacker forum,” according to the report.

It is advised that Suspicious messages and connection requests from strangers on Clubhouse should be avoided. Users can even change their Clubhouse account password to make sure it isn’t the same as someone else’s. One of the ways to keep cybercriminals at bay is to allow two-factor authentication.
