“We were in a phase of introduction to vaccination, and we knew it would not be massive”: a guest on RTL morning Tuesday defended Health Minister Olivier Véran’s choice of vaccination. He recalled that the government had relied on the recommendations of the High Health Authority, which favored vaccination of people most at risk of the virus, especially the elderly in nursing homes.
But “we are now in a phase where we need to strengthen, accelerate and simplify our vaccine strategy,” added Olivier Véran.
New qualified target groups
The Minister of Health announced on Tuesday that new target groups will soon be eligible for vaccination. From this Tuesday, he said, firefighters and home helpers over 50 will be able to receive an injection of the vaccine against coronavirus. “They are in contact with fragile and sick people,” Olivier Véran explained.
At the end of January, people over the age of 75 who are not nursing home residents will also be able to be vaccinated. “There are five million people,” Olivier Véran said.
