Rhône crosses the threshold of 3,000 deaths

Following the sharp increase in epidemiological indicators observed during the first week of 2021, the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 stabilized at a high level during week 2 in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, reports Public Health France (SpF) in its weekly newsletters.

At the regional level, the screening frequency (-4%), new cases (-7%) and positivity (-0.3%) were all on a downward trend, as were consultations with SOS Doctors and emergency room visits (-4%) for suspected Covid-19. However, the number of new hospital admissions continues to increase (+ 8%) and especially the number of intensive care units (+ 12%).

In the region, 14 cases of English varieties and one of South African variety

In this context, the adoption of barrier movements and the restriction of contact are therefore important for everyone, especially when new variants emerge: 14 cases of English variants and one case of South African variant were thus confirmed region. Eleven of these cases reported travel abroad or contact with a confirmed case.

In the Rhône, the hospitalization rate increases (from 16.2 / 100,000 to 19.7 / 100,000), and so does the intensive care unit (from 3.6 / 100,000 to 3.9 / 100,000)) which in turn becomes the highest rate in the region. For several weeks, the number of patients in intensive care has not managed to fall below the 130s, a number that still reached this Friday (+4 in 24 hours) after two days of slight decline. The total number of hospitalized patients fell to 906 (-7), but 44 new patients were still hospitalized within 24 hours, including 11 in intensive care.

Explosion in the number of cases in medical-social institutions

Above all, the incidence continues to increase to 216.2 / 100,000 in Metropolitan France and 223.1 / 100,000 in the Rhône for the sliding week from 14 to 19 January. In those over 65, it reaches 237/100 000. The positivity rate has also increased rapidly in recent days and reached 8.4%.

In EMS (medical-social institutions), the number of confirmed cases exploded in week 2 with 160 confirmed cases among the inhabitants, ie + 114! Twenty deaths were registered in one week (+3), which led to 933 number of residents who have died in nursing homes since March 1, to which 2,092 patients died in hospital (+11 in the last 24 hours). A total of 3,025 people have been swept by Covid-19 in the Rhône in more than ten months. During the first half of the year, the department registered a “significant surplus of moderate mortality” among those over 65 years of age.

Influenza and bronchiolitis virus which is absent in the area

The activity for flu symptoms is almost zero in the region with 0.02% in week 1 and 0.04% in week 2, respectively, in emergency visits and 0.7% of SOS doctors have been shopping since the beginning of the year. The activity for bronchiolitis was only slightly higher with, in S2, 3.2% of emergency visits (compared with 3.1% in S1) and 2.1% of SOS doctors work (compared to 0.3% in S1) but hold well in previous years. Since the beginning of the year, the degree of positivity for influenza virus and RSV has been 0%.
