Slack has launched Connect DMs, which allows you to send messages to people outside your organization

The feature had been in the development for a long time even before Salesforce bought the company. The rollout, on the other hand, is intended to keep the platform competitive as products like Teams and Zoom gain traction.

Slack, a popular workplace collaboration and networking platform, is expanding its messaging capabilities. Slack users will soon be able to send direct messages to every other Slack user.

Connect DMs is the name of the feature. Slack, according to a Protocol article, allows you to invite someone using their work email address. When the receiver accepts the invitation, they are added to the Slack sidebar as a new contact. The new messaging functionality, according to the study, transforms the workplace platform into an application for messaging anybody.

Slack now competes with common tools like Microsoft Teams due to this feature. “When someone opens up their phone,” said Ilan Frank, Slack’s VP of product told Protocol, “if they’re connecting with their friends, they click on Facebook or WhatsApp. If they’re connecting with someone they work with, regardless of where that person works, they should be clicking on Slack.”

Slack is also being questioned about how it can keep users secure now that the direct messaging feature has been extended. Some Twitter users have pointed out a couple of flaws that could lead to abuse. For example, a sender may use foul language in an invitation or send abusive messages.

Slack VP of Communications and Policy Jonathan Prince said, “Slack Connect’s security features and robust administrative controls are a core part of its value both for individual users and their organisations. We made a mistake in this initial rollout that is inconsistent with our goals for the product and the typical experience of Slack Connect usage. As always, we are grateful to everyone who spoke up, and we are committed to fixing this issue”.

The company has been able to admit its faults. When a user invites someone to Slack Connect DMs, the ability to customize a message has been removed, according to the company.
